Dan Piraro
Seeing the World from a Cartoonist's Point-of-View

Photo of Dan PiraroDan Piraro is a cartoonist and a commentator about the world at large.  You may be very familiar with Bizarro, his cartoon that is syndicated widely.  Since 1995 this cartoon has been a vehicle for him to share the humor he sees in the world around him and to make points about issues he feels we need to understand.  Though his cartoons cover all kinds of topics, he often has ideas that include cowboys and Native Americans.  For this reason, we invited him to the Eiteljorg Museum as an artist-in-residence and to participate in our gathering on “Western and Native American Reflections in Comics.”

During his week at the Eiteljorg Museum, he was able to work with a number of high school groups and do demonstrations of his work in the museum.  Along with participating in the gathering on comics, he also did a special variation on his performance show.  Normally titled Bizarro Baloney, his performance here was titled The Bizarro West.  Great fun!

Dan Piraro's residency was supported by a grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.
