Enjoy Indian Market & Festival on the museum grounds, relax at evening concerts under The Sails, and explore The Grand Canyon exhibition educational programming

Summer Under The Sails: Late Wednesday Nights
5 – 8 p.m.

Cool off and explore the museum’s indoor offerings for half price between 5-8 p.m. every Wednesday in June and July, and the first Wednesday in August. Also on Wednesdays, hang out under The Sails and enjoy the sounds of local musicians from 6-8 p.m. (Indoors in case of rain). Cash bar (age 21 and older) and snacks available. Check eiteljorg.org for a list of performers. Free to the public.

Curator’s Choice Series:  Luzene Hill – Retracing The Trace

Cost: Eiteljorg members - FREE, Non-members/General Public - Program included with museum admission

Curator of Contemporary Art, Jennifer Complo McNutt  will discuss 2015 Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship artist, Luzene Hill’s (Eastern Band Cherokee) work, Retracing the Trace, an exploration of the pain of sexual assault.

Adventures of the Grand Canyon

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Cost: Eiteljorg members - FREE, Non-members/General Public - Programs included with museum admission

Tour The Grand Canyon exhibit with an Eiteljorg curator. Learn about and meet animals of the Grand Canyon with Animalia. Join Grand Canyon adventurer Dave Edwards as he shares stories of running the Colorado River through the Canyon. Enjoy a live music performance by Tobe & Allie under The Sails. Catch a film, quiz an Eiteljorg Park Ranger and take a free photo walk along the Canal with Roberts Camera. Visit eiteljorg.org for walk registration details.

Summer Reading Book Discussion with the Indianapolis Public Library

6 - 7 p.m.
Cost: Free to public

Curator Dr. Scott Shoemaker, Thomas G. and Susan C. Hoback curator of Native American art, history and culture, and Eiteljorg librarian Dana Duffy will lead a discussion of the book The Miami Indians: A Persistent People, 1654 - 1994 by Stewart Rafert at the Eiteljorg. Free to public.

Saturday | June 18
Juneteenth

11 a.m. –  3 p.m.

Cost: FREE admission

Celebrate Juneteenth at the Eiteljorg Museum with music, performances, demonstrations, food and fun for the entire family. Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in Texas. In honor of Juneteenth, the celebration and museum admission will be free for all.

The Eiteljorg’s annual celebration of art, history and cultures returns to the museum grounds this year, showcasing Native American artists representing 60+ tribes. Festival-goers will enjoy family activities, cultural demonstrations, Indian tacos and buffalo burgers, and entertainment by renowned Native performers.

Curator’s Choice Series: Back Story: Exploring the Hidden Stories Behind Select Paintings on View in the Western Galleries

The History of the Grand Canyon

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost: Eiteljorg members - FREE, Non-members/General Public - Programs included with museum admission

Tour The Grand Canyon exhibit with an Eiteljorg curator, and hear presentations by former National Park Service historian Dwight T. Pitcaithley and by Linda Kuester whose mother was a Harvey Girl in the 1940s. Catch a film, quiz an Eiteljorg Park Ranger, and create your own work of art inspired by the Grand Canyon.

WestFest
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost: Eiteljorg members - FREE, Non-members/General Public - Programs included with museum admission

Campfire smoke. Horses. Leather. Music. Cowboys. The sights and sounds of the American West will surround visitors at this family festival featuring a stick horse rodeo, western swing and folk musical performances, western characters like Hopalong Cassidy, chuckwagon food, panning for gold, and more! Included with museum admission.
