Now in its sixth year, the Eiteljorg Museum’s Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure exhibit is bigger and better than ever before. This year, museumgoers can expect to see three new additions including the Las Vegas Strip and the Hoover Dam all made out of natural materials like twigs, moss and nuts.
“This year for the first time, a locomotive will break free from the museum's Clowes Sculpture Court into our Eagle Commons hallway, where it will wind overhead,” said Dr. Martha Hill, vice president for public programs and visitor experience.
Jingle Rails is a journey to the Great American West – the real West and the West of the imagination. The popular locomotive wonderland and Indianapolis family tradition opens Saturday, Nov. 21.
Watch nine trains wind past the local treasures of downtown Indianapolis, including the Eiteljorg Museum, Monument Circle, Union Station, the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Lucas Oil Stadium, where you will hear veteran Colts radio announcer Bob Lamey call a game. The trains then head through the national parks of the American West, passing legendary sites, including grand railway lodges, Northwest Coast Native villages, and wonders both natural and human-made—Mt. Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Yosemite Falls, Old Faithful, and now the Las Vegas Strip, Hoover Dam and much more.
Every canyon and mesa, every lodge and geyser is created by Paul Busse and his brilliant team at Applied Imagination. Busse’s inventive holiday creations are rare and only seen in cities like New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C.—and now Indianapolis.
In addition to the exhibition, museumgoers will also enjoy a new interactive experience. Nestled between the trestles in Eagle Commons visitors will find a kiosk that offers a "train's-eye view" of the exhibit.
