2009 Summer Workshops

Drum Making Workshop
Saturday, June 13
10 a.m. – Noon
 
Tony Showa, Navajo drummer, will provide supplies and instruction to make your own Native American hand drum.

Junk to Jewelry – Soda Can Brooches
Saturday, July 4
2 – 3 p.m.
Limit: 10 participants
Fee: $10, pre-registration required
Ages: All ages welcome (kids should be accompanied by an adult)
Instructor: Linda Montag-Olson
 
Our junk to jewelry workshop series focuses on repurposing everyday items that we typically toss into the garbage or recycling bin. In this workshop participants will learn how to upcycle an old soda can, turning it into a fabulous brooch. All materials will be provided. Each participant will leave the workshop with a finished piece of jewelry.

Leather Pouch Workshop
Saturday, July 11
1 – 3 p.m.
Limit: 10
Fee: $35, pre-registration required
Ages: All ages welcome (kids should be accompanied by an adult)
Instructor: Julia Conley, with intro and museum connections made by Linda or Alisa
 
Use reclaimed/recycled deerskin, elk or cow hide to create a leather pouch. Participants will learn the blanket stitch technique, design a bag and sew it using sinew. All materials will be provided and each participant will leave with a finished pouch. Additional kits will be available for $15 and make great gifts.
 
 
Simple Soldered Pendants
Saturday, July 18
10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Limit: 10 participants
Fee: $65, pre-registration required
Ages: 14 and up
Instructor: Alisa Nordholt-Dean
 
Learn to create personalized keepsake soldered glass pendants using stained-glass soldering techniques. All materials will be provided, however, participants are encouraged to bring their own photos, paper, and ephemera to make their pieces more personal. Each participant will leave with several finished pendants and a basic soldering kit which includes everything necessary to continue soldering at home.

Acrylic Painting Workshop for Families
Saturday, August 15
1 – 2:30 p.m.
Limit: 15
Fee: $ 20, pre-registration required
Ages: All ages welcome (kids should be accompanied by an adult)
Instructor: Julia Conley, with intro and museum connections made by Linda or Alisa
 
Join Julia and learn about her unique method of painting using only three colors. Anyone who can hold a paintbrush can create a beautiful painting in this workshop – no special artistic skill is required. All materials will be provided and participants will leave with at least one finished painting. 
 
 
Domino Jewelry (brooch and/or pendant)
Saturday, August 22
10 a.m. – noon
Limit: 10 participants
Fee: $15, pre-registration required
Ages: All ages (kids should be accompanied by an adult)
Instructor: Alisa Nordholt-Dean
 
Learn how to create beautiful domino jewelry using both black and white dominos. All supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring interesting stamps and decorative papers from home. Each participants will leave with several finished pieces and the knowledge to continue creating domino jewelry at home. 
 
 
Altered Tin Assemblage
Saturday, August 22
1 – 4 p.m.
Limit: 10 participants
Fee: $25, pre-registration required
Ages: 14 and up
Instructor: Alisa/Linda
 
Create an altered tin assemblage. Learn how to distress and paint a new tin to give it an antique appearance, then fill your tin with papers, fabrics and special trinkets to create a personal piece of art. All supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring interesting papers and trinkets from home to make the tin more personal. Each participant will leave with a finished piece and the knowledge to continue creating at home. 
 
 
Art Play at the Eiteljorg – Sunday Open Studios
Sunday, June 21, July 19, August 16 (the third Sunday of each month)
1 – 4 p.m.
Where: In the Art Studios in Discovery Junction at the Eiteljorg Museum
All ages welcome.
 
Calling all artists, crafters and life-long learners – bring your current project and enjoy an open studio at the Eiteljorg Museum on the third Sunday of each month.  Everyone is welcome whether your passion is knitting, sketching, beading, writing or painting.  Open studios provide the opportunity to work at your own pace on exactly what you are interested in while visiting with and learning from fellow artists and crafters.  There is no charge for the open studio time. If you plan to visit the galleries, general admission fees will apply.
