Navajo Day
April 12, 2008 (All Day)
Join us for an exploration and celebration of Navajo culture.
 
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.     Mark Winter Navajo Rug Trunk Show
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.     Navajo weaving, sheep shearing and wool dyeing with artist TahNibaa Naataani (sheep shearing from 12:30 to 2 p.m.)
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.     Participate in hands-on family activities.
  
10 a.m.          Experience the art of drum making with Tony Showa (through 12:30 p.m.)
11 a.m.          Learn to make traditional Navajo fry bread (through 1 p.m.)
11:30 a.m.     Presentation by TahNibaa Naataanii: Contributions of the Navajo Code Talkers from a Weaver’s Perspective 
Noon              Watch Navajo silversmith Enoch Corson at work. (through 3 p.m.)
Noon              Film: "Miss Navajo," a PBS Independent Lens documentary
12:30 p.m.     Lecture by Mark Winter: "New Grey Hills: A Weaving Revolution"
12:30 p.m.     Community Drum Circle
1 p.m.            Hear traditional Navajo stories: "The Goat in the Rug"
1 p.m.            Tour of Navajo objects in the galleries with stop at the Southwest Cart
1:30 p.m.       Mark Winter Book Signing
1:30 p.m.       Film and discussion: "Kinaalda: Navajo Rite of Passage"
2 p.m.            Learn the art of drum making with Tony Showa (Registration required. Fee.)
