Eiteljorg Museum awards more than $26,000 to Native American artists at the 2010 Indian Market & Festival
INDIANAPOLIS— Dominique Toya (Jemez Pueblo) and Jody Naranjo (Santa Clara Pueblo) took top prize for their collaborative piece Double Insanity at the 18th Eiteljorg Museum Indian Market & Festival where more than 150 Native American artists were honored for their artwork.
Nationally known judges, Todd Bordeaux (Sicangu Lakota Oyate), Corwin “Corky” Clairmont (Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes), Marita Hinds (Tesuque Pueblo), Mario Nick Klimiades, Pennie Opal Plant (Yaqui/Mexican/Cherokee/Choctaw/European) awarded more than $26,000 within nine divisions. The Indian Market and Festival Purchase Award is the acquisition of a piece for the museum’s permanent collection.

The Eiteljorg Museum Indian Market & Festival is one of the largest juried sale and shows of Native American art in the Midwest and has become a mainstay in the Indianapolis arts community, allowing the public to enjoy not only celebrated artwork, but a full cultural experience of authentic Native American food, entertainers, games and family activities
To be eligible to participate in the Indian Market & Festival, all entries must be handmade within the last two years by the artist entering the piece. They must also be available for purchase during the Eiteljorg Museum Indian Market & Festival, and must not include any part of a species of protected animal. To ensure the authenticity of the artwork and to protect the artists, all artists must provide documentation confirming that they are members of a state- or federally-recognized tribe.
The Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art works to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the art, history and cultures of the American West and the indigenous peoples of North America. The museum, which opened in 1989, is located in Downtown Indianapolis’ White River State Park.
