A trip to the Eiteljorg Museum can be based on one of our interactive tours with skilled volunteers eager to make the museum come alive for students. We offer a number of core educational tours that link to IDOE Academic Standards, and we can help to make these connections for every tour. To plan a tour that runs smoothly and brings the most benefit to your students, consider the following questions:
When do you want to come?
- Check the museum calendar to see what special exhibits are upcoming, etc. See the What’s Happening section for more ideas about coordinating your visit with museum events and exhibits.
- Does your group need to eat lunch while at the museum? We have a sack lunch area that can accommodate up to 60 students at a time. Be sure to discuss this need when scheduling.
Would you like a museum-guided tour or do your teachers plan to guide?
- Our volunteer guides are highly trained and can add wonderful insights for your students. If you would like museum guides, please schedule at least three weeks ahead.
- If your groups will be self-guided, we recommend having an adult guide for every 10 students. Depending upon the group, there may be additional escort requirements. For self-guided tours, please schedule at least ten days ahead.
What tour will best meet your goals for the field trip?
- Check out the Tour Descriptions section for detailed information to help your decision.
- Please share specifics about your goals with us. We will pass this information to the guides so that they can address those specifics throughout your tour.
Would your group benefit from an additional studio experience?
- A studio experience can address additional IDOE Academic Standards.
- You need to plan on about 45 minutes extra - ask during scheduling.
- Most studios with artists-in-residence are free; some require a minimal materials charge.
- Some studio workshops have an advertised cost.
- Studio sessions with artists-in-residence go quickly, so make plans early.
What are your funding requirements?
- To qualify for student group rates, all school groups must schedule in advance.
- Museum school group admission is $3.00 for each student and adult escort.
- IPS students and teachers are free but must schedule at least three weeks in advance for guided tours.
- Teachers Credit Union transportation grants are still available. Please call and discuss options with our schedulers to learn more.
