Jingle Rails goes to Vegas; Winter Market offers handmade art and gifts; Indy Hospitality Week honors hospitality industry employees with free admission

Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure

Nov. 21, 2015, through Jan. 18, 2016

The flashy hotels and distinctive signage of the Vegas Strip now have a place among the icons of the West featured in the Eiteljorg Museum’s Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure, a one-of-a-kind G-scale train display. Vegas is one of several new additions to this popular winter locomotive wonderland and Indianapolis family tradition. Jingle Rails features nine trains racing from downtown Indianapolis to the American West past famous landmarks including Mount Rushmore, Old Faithful, Golden Gate Bridge and  Indy's very own Lucas Oil Stadium and Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. This year for the first time, a locomotive will break free from the museum's Clowes Sculpture Court and into Eagle Commons hallway, where it will wind overhead.

Holiday Photo Sessions Inside Jingle Rails

Cost: Donation of $50 or more

Donate at least $50 to the museum in support of educational programming to reserve a private mini-photo session with a professional photographer in Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure. Thanksgiving Weekend

Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend at the Eiteljorg! Create art and see the museum’s annual holiday display, Jingle Rails.  From 1 – 3 p.m., join Teresa Webb (Anishinaabe) and hear about Native American cultures through stories and songs, accompanied by flute, drum and rattle.

Indianapolis Hospitality Week - FREE ADMISSION
Monday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 6

The Eiteljorg will host its fourth Indianapolis Hospitality Week by offering COMPLIMENTARY admission to hospitality industry employees and their families. With this offer, the museum will honor hotel concierges, IndyGo and cab drivers, restaurant waitstaff, Convention Center security and housekeeping, airline red caps and others who make the city a welcoming place to live and visit. Guests simply need to show a work badge, business card or other proof of employment in the hospitality industry to enjoy the museum’s holiday exhibit, Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure and the Contemporary Art Fellowship exhibit, CONVERSATIONS, plus the museum’s world-class art collection; R.B. Annis Western Family Experience;  Frank and Katrina Basile Museum Store; and the Eiteljorg Museum Café. Parking at the Eiteljorg Museum is free in the WRSP underground garage.

Winter Market
Saturday, December 5

Shop the season’s best regional art market featuring handmade art from more than 30 artists. Winter Market features activities for the whole family, including Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure, a locomotive wonderland featuring trains racing past astonishingly-detailed local and Western landmarks made of natural materials. Kids of all ages can also explore The R.B. Annis Western Family Experience, an interactive area that immerses visitors in the lives of a diverse group of Westerners and offers the chance to decorate and raise a totem pole, build a sod house, climb aboard a true-to-life stagecoach and more. After a day of holiday shopping and exploring the West, take a break in the Café and warm up with some Southwestern fare. Finish your visit to the Eiteljorg with a stop in at the Museum Store, to find great gifts for your whole family.

Artist Wilson Hurley’s majestic three-panel painting--October Suite: Grand Canyon, 1991--has greeted visitors inside the museum’s entrance for more than two decades. Now a team is working to conserve the iconic artwork before it is featured in the museum’s must-see Grand Canyon exhibition, opening March 26, 2016. Don’t miss this rare public opportunity to see conservators at work and learn more about the delicate task of maintaining treasured art. More public conservation dates coming in January. Martin Luther King Jr. Day - FREE ADMISSION

Admission to the Eiteljorg Museum and other White River State Park (WRSP) venues is FREE on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with the donation of a non-perishable food item to Gleaners Food Bank. Drop off your donation at any WRSP institution and experience all the park has to offer. At the Eiteljorg, enjoy the museum’s holiday exhibit, Jingle Rails: The Great Western Adventure and the Contemporary Art Fellowship exhibit, CONVERSATIONS, plus the museum’s world-class art collection; R.B. CONVERSATIONS Contemporary Art Fellowship Exhibition

The Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship showcases the work of Native artists in various mediums such as painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, mixed media and installation. An exhibition of the 2015 Fellows’ artwork, CONVERSATIONS, opens Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015,  and runs through Feb. 14, 2016. The exhibition features artworks that defy stereotypes and misconceptions. This biennial Fellowship supports the work and legacy of emerging and established Native American and First Nations artists working with contemporary media and ideas.

Saturday Storytelling with Teresa Webb (Anishinaabe)
