WHO: Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art (Indianapolis)

WHAT: Gold! Riches and Ruin demonstrates how the hunt for gold in the West changed lives, transformed the demography of an entire region and had a profound impact on Native American populations. The show is rich in objects as well as tangible experiences for children and families:

  • SEE gold recovered from two shipwrecks – including the SS Islander, which sank off the coast of Alaska in 1901. This will be the first time these specimens will be seen in public.
  • MEET Belinda Mulrooney - one of the richest women in the Klondike at the turn of the 20th century, and hear about her adventures during the Yukon Klondike Gold Rush.
  • MARVEL at gold nuggets, crystallized gold, gold bars, gold jewelry and more.
  • DISCOVER the science behind how gold is found, the technology used to extract it and the impact mining has on the environment.
  • EXPERIENCE what it was like to pan for gold and use your discovery to “purchase” an item

WHEN: Saturday, Mar. 7, through Sunday, Aug. 9
