Seasonal Gallery/Admission Assistant

The Public Programs and Visitor Experience department is taking resumes for the position of Seasonal Gallery/Admission Assistant. This position will work during our upcoming busy holiday season and will rotate throughout the museum's galleries, the R.B. JOB TITLE:          Seasonal Gallery/Admission Assistant
DEPARTMENT:    Public Programs and Visitor Experience
STATUS:              Non - Exempt
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Visitor Experience Manager
EMPLOYEES SUPERVISED:    0

In addition to answering phones and working our admissions desk, Guest Relations Gallery Assistants will work in the R.B. Annis Family Western Experience and in the Jingle Rails Exhibit. Their role is to ensure that the Galleries are attended at all times and to offer all visitors the highest standards of customer service during their visit.  


Core hours of work will range from 5-25 hours per week, working two – four days out of seven on a flexible working schedule. In addition to normal museum hours (Monday-Saturday 10-5 and Sundays 12-5), weekends hours will be required as well as some evenings during special events. This position is a seasonal position with employment from November 2014 through the middle of January 2015. Permanent employment is a possibility, but not guaranteed.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of having provided a high standard of visitor service experience throughout previous employment.
  • Enjoy and have experience working confidently with the general public and children / young persons.
  • Have an understanding of the different needs of museum visitors.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be enthusiastic, confident and be able to use own initiative.
  • Ability to remain calm and confident in emergency situations.
  • Have a flexible approach to working in team situations.
  • Have excellent phone skills.
  • Ability to operate a cash register.
  • Ability to stand for periods of up to 2-4 hours at a time, which would include occasionally working outdoors and light lifting and handling.

  • MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Assist with the visitor flow, especially when large groups are visiting the Galleries.
    2. Complete daily Gallery checks and report faults and defects.
    3. Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the gallery space
    4. Gain knowledge of the Museum’s Collections and Exhibits, and be able to impart that knowledge to visitors.
    5. Operate cash register, receiving cash, checks, and credit cards – following security and cash handling procedures.
    6. Actively sell memberships.
    7. Assist with school groups visiting the museum
    8. Assist in the evacuation of the Museum, during an emergency and ensure the safety of the visitors and others.
    9. Any other duties, which may be directed by the Visitor Experience Manager and/or Director of Visitor Experience.
